Abstract
This seminar will provide an overview of the recent achievements in failure analysis of heterogeneous materials and structures based on a variational approach, which combines the phase field method for fracture in the bulk and the cohesive zone model for decohesion at existing interfaces.
Results and applications, achieved through extensive international co-operations, regard: (i) the fundamental problem of a crack impinging onto an interface in statics and dynamics; (ii) the competition between intergranular and trans-granular cracks in polycrystals; (iii) the competition between interlaminar and translaminar cracks in laminates; (iv) understanding in-situ strength effects in long fibre reinforced composites due to the interplay between fibre-matrix decohesion and matrix failure.
The seminar will take place in the “Aula Pacinotti” of the School of Engineering of the University of Pisa, Largo Lucio Lazzarino, I-56122 Pisa (PI).
Remote attendance will also be enabled through the Microsoft Teams platform at the following link:https://tinyurl.com/4yauzuy5
