Resource-efficient steel CONSTRUCTion using ADDitive manufacturing

Steel manufacturing is a resource, labour, and energy intensive industry, which must keep pace with the rapid development aiming at decarbonizing our world. Additive manufacturing (AM) has opened new perspectives in many industries (e.g. aerospace, automotive), providing resource-efficient solutions thanks to the geometric freedom and digitalization. Steel manufacturers also could benefit from AM; however, the major obstacle is the lack of technical experience, formal standards and regulations regarding AM in the construction sector. CONSTRUCTADD aims to identify and develop rules and procedures to regulate the use of AM for sustainable steel construction applications, in compliance with EU Regulation n. 305/2011. While the main focus will be on construction industry, a partner from the automotive industry is directly included, through which mutual benefits will be gained in the field of tubular steel manufacturing.
